Frequently Asked Questions

A crate, a bed, food and water bowls, age-appropriate food, a collar with an ID tag, a lead, and a couple of safe chew toys. That covers the first week comfortably — everything else can wait until you know your puppy’s habits.

From day one, gently. Keep the door open at first, feed meals inside, and never use the crate as punishment. Short, positive sessions build the association far faster than long ones.

Buy for your puppy’s expected adult size and use a divider to shrink the space while they grow. They should be able to stand, turn around, and lie flat — much more room than that and house training gets harder.

Four or five is plenty, chosen for different jobs: one chew, one tug, one puzzle or treat toy, one soft comfort toy. Rotating them weekly keeps them interesting without buying more.

Not for every household. They help in flats, on high floors, or before the vaccination course is complete. If you can get outside easily and often, going straight to outdoor training usually avoids a second habit to unlearn later.

Check that it is sized for your puppy’s weight, has no small parts that can be chewed off, and is made from non-toxic materials. Supervise any new toy the first few times, and retire anything that starts to come apart.
